Google maps not downloading in Firefox 3

Posted by: Rishi on: June 25, 2008

Are you using Firefox 3 or Firefox 3 beta and are you having problem with Google maps not showing up?

I think I might have the solution to this problem.

By the way, are you using Skype also?

If you are using Skype, then, this blog will help you fix your problem with Google maps not downloading.

If you are not using Skype, then try disabling some add-ons which make use of Java Script, that might help.

Ok, lets start.

Open Firefox 3 and go to Tools | Add-ons.

Look for the Skype extension . It will probably be version 2.2.0.86 or earlier! Right?

If it says version 2.2.0.89 or above, then its bad news, stop reading this blog as it will be of no help.

If its says version 2.2.0.86 or earlier, try disabling the extension … and Google Maps will then work. I tried it, but it didn’t got disabled. If you manage to disable yours, do let me know. Anyway, I didn’t have much time to fiddle with it.

Now go to https://developer.skype.com/SkypeToolbars/

Scroll down till and download the “SkypeFFPlugin.2.2.0.89.exe” [at time of writing, newer version might be out] file of click here.

Install the file and restart Firefox.

That’s it!!!

Reopen Firefox 3 and Google Maps will work.

If that doesn’t solve it, then, search the web for help or use Yahoo Maps!

Please do add a comment below to say whether this worked for you or not. Thanks!

Hey Rishi,

Your solution above works perfectly. Thanks…

Oliver

Perfect!
Thank you. ;)
Respect!

Totally a skype add-on problem.

Thanks Oliver, Napo and David.
Nice to hear that it works for other people also.
Hopefully SKYPE will address this issue and fix this bug in its next release.

I’m going insane. Nothing works for me, I googled for hours, tried every troubleshooter and Google Maps does not want to work! Fuck it.

Removing the skype extension worked for me, but the 2.2.0.89 version did the same thing!

I had the same problem, disabling SkypeToolbars (V 2.2.0.87) fixed it, installing 2.2.0.89 and enabling broke it, so I decided to uninstall SkypeToolbars permamently (don’t use them anyway ;)

Just after I sent the last comment, I decided to look at https://developer.skype.com/SkypeToolbars/ again and saw “Skype extension for Firefox BETA 2.2.0.91″.
The ToolbarChangeLog says:
FF extension 2.2.0.90 June 25th 2008 OWA optimizations and Google maps fix, so I thopught I’d try the BETA 2.2.0.91 and it works!
Thanks Rishi, without this blog I wouldn’t have been able to get it running… ( who would have thought the skype extension is the culprit ;)

It worked for me too. My Skype Add-on was (V 2.2.0.87)
Thank you!

I also had this problem on vista sp1 with ff3.
With skype plugin 2.2.0.86 and 2.2.0.89 it was still there. Disabling the skype plugin resulted in google maps working.
Found a newer plugin at skype: 2.2.0.91, with that one it works again.
thanks,

Thank you, that is the solution !

Excellent, I’d been wrestling with this for weeks. Thank you.
